Moving Companies
Moving companies can provide a number of helpful services to those who are planning to relocate. These professionals can pack and move all of your belongings for you, saving you time and stress.
Planning to move in the near future? Whether it is across town or across the country, many people find that the hardest part of relocating is the physical move itself. Packing all your belongings, loading them into vans or trucks and getting them to your new home safely can be a strenuous process. However, with the help of one of the many moving companies in the business, you can complete your move without much of the hassle and stress that usually accompanies such an undertaking.
If you are planning to use the services of one of these moving companies, you should know the industry’s peak and off-peak times. Most moving occurs during the summer and at the beginning or end of each month, so plan accordingly. If your move must take place during one of these times, make sure you plan enough ahead of time to ensure that the services you need will be available. The normal scheduling time for a move is 6-8 weeks prior to the moving date, so if you need to move during a peak time, be sure to do it well in advance.
There are a few things you should consider before choosing a moving company.
These things include:
- Decide which of your belongings will be shipped (via air or ground mail) and which will need to be moved.
- Do you want to pack your belongings yourself or do you want to trust others to do it? Many people who have valuable antiques or other such household goods wish to take care of the packing themselves, and others choose to let someone else handle the whole process. The choice is completely up to you. If you do choose to pack either some or all of your belongings yourself, be sure to obtain boxes and other packing supplies from a moving supply company or other such entity, as these materials are specially designed to be packed in moving trucks and vans. They are built much stronger than other boxes in order to protect your belongings from any damage from being handled or simply from being in the trucks.
- Know and explore all your options. Call around for estimates from each of the moving companies you are considering and let the movers know of any anticipated problems or special circumstances on your end. This will lead to a more accurate estimate.
- Check the reputation of your movers by calling the Better Business Bureau or by asking for references (and checking them!).
- Be aware of any “hidden” charges due to payment method, etc., and know what services you can expect (will they unpack as well?).
- Check into purchasing liability insurance. There are a number of options, including limited liability, full replacement value protection, and declared value protection, so do your research and decide which coverage is right for you. You can never be too careful with your valuables.
Your move does not have to be a stressful one. By obtaining help from one of the many available moving companies, you can rest assured that you will have a qualified professional helping you every step of the way.
