Welcome to Montana Real Estate

Although it is the fourth largest state in land area, Montana has a population of fewer than 1 million residents, and a population density of just six people per square mile. The state has none of the traffic congestion that is frequent in more population-dense areas (the average resident commutes just 13 minutes to work), and experiences considerably less crime than the national average.

Montana is also home to a plethora of wildlife, including trumpeter swans, elk, golden eagles, common loons, pronghorn antelope, moose, snow geese, grizzly bears, pelicans, and deer. No other state has as many species of mammals.

Because of Montana's un-crowded, stress-free atmosphere, many people choose it as a spot to retire or build a vacation home. In 1888, Helena had more millionaires per capita than any other city in the world, many of whom had selected the state as a retreat for these very reasons.

Montana real estate is mid-priced, with the average home selling for $173,000 (as of 2004).
